How to get here?

Important Travel Tips
  • Best time to visit: The dry season (April to October) is ideal for most activities, such as beaches and hiking. However, the rainy season (November to March) offers bigger waves for surfing.
  • Travel documents: Ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months. Check visa requirements for your country of origin; a visa on arrival (VOA) is available at major airports and is valid for 30 days.
  • Health: It’s wise to bring personal medication and consider purchasing travel insurance.
  • Transportation: Use domestic flights for inter-island travel. On land, apps like Gojek and Grab are very useful in major cities. In smaller areas, motorbike taxis (ojek) and regular taxis are options.
  • Money: The currency is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). Bring cash, especially in remote areas or local markets.
  • Culture: Dress modestly when visiting places of worship or outside major tourist areas. Always ask for permission before taking photos of people.
Travel Budget

Indonesia is generally an affordable destination, but costs vary depending on location and your travel style.

  • Budget travelers: A daily budget can range from $20–50 per day by staying in hostels or homestays and eating at local food stalls (warungs).
  • Luxury travel: High-end resorts and exclusive experiences are available in Bali, Sumba, and other locations, which can significantly increase daily spending.
  • Tour package prices: Packages to Bali can range from 500,000 IDR to over 4 million IDR, depending on duration and inclusions.
What to Pack
  • Clothing: Bring lightweight, breathable clothing. Include a jacket if you plan on visiting high-altitude areas or during the rainy season.
  • Connectivity: Buy a local SIM card with an affordable data package at the airport or a convenience store to stay connected.
  • Planning: Be mindful that traffic can be dense and sometimes chaotic. Plan your routes to avoid unnecessary travel time.
